Updated: Lines reopen after major rail disruption through York

There’s been major rail disruption affecting trains through York this morning (Thursday, 12 June).

It was due to a fault with the signalling system caused by the theft of signalling cable in the Wakefield Westgate area, closing all lines running between Wakefield Westgate and Doncaster.

National Rail said: “As a result of this issue, trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, revised or diverted.

All lines have now reopened, with disruption expected to last until midday.

The disruption affects:

  • Northern services between York / Leeds and Sheffield
  • Cross Country services between Edinburgh / Newcastle / Leeds / York and Plymouth
  • LNER between Bradford Forster Square / Skipton / Harrogate / Leeds and London Kings Cross.

Network Rail staff are on site working to rectify the issue.
