Lorry fire partially closes A1M in North Yorkshire

There have been problems on the A1M in North Yorkshire this morning (Saturday).

Emergency services were called to a lorry fire at junction 51, Leeming Bar, at 5.27am.

The northbound carriageway was fully closed until 7.05am.

At 7.05am, National Highways Yorkshire said on X: “2 lanes (of 3) remain closed on the #A1M northbound between J51 #LeemingBar and J52 #Catterick in #NorthYorkshire.

“Recovery agents have now arrived at scene and are making plans won how best to recover the vehicle.

“No significant delays are reported on approach.”

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Bedale, Northallerton and Richmond responded to a lorry on fire carrying non hazardous materials.

“Crews extinguished the fire using two hose reel jets, four breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera.

“The incident is still ongoing awaiting the cause. No persons were injured.”
