Lorry fire brought traffic to a halt on A1M in North Yorkshire

A lorry fire caused problems for drivers on the A1M this morning (Thursday).

Fire crews from Knaresborough, Thirsk, Harrogate and Boroughbridge responded to a HGV well alight at 5.02am.

It was between junction 48 to Boroughbridge and junction 49 to Ripon.

Traffic going north was stopped as firefighters tackled the blaze.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The cause was accidental and no one was injured.”

Traffic has now been released. One lane remains closed as the burnt out vehicle is recovered.
