Free secure indoor bike parking on offer in the centre of York

The Evans Cycles bike store in Coney street is offering a free way to keep you safe from theft.

The manager, Ryan Finnie and his team have opened the doors to a secure bicycle storage area, which it’s hoped will encourage people to travel into the city by bike rather than car.

The cycle store is open from 9am to 5pm and located on the top floor of their shop.

It operates on a first come first served basis giving people an alternative to the city’s bike racks.

The room can currently fit 24 bikes, with extra space for accessories, but Ryan says that space can be expanded if they need it. He will wait to see just how popular it is first.

Speaking to David Dunning on the YorkMix Radio Sunday Late Show, he said: “You don’t have to be a customer, no obligation to buy anything, just come in and use it.

It’s one way, he added, that they can support cyclists in the city and help cut the alarming number of bike thefts.
