Four York businesses win big in the national VisitEngland tourism awards

They are already loved in York – and now their fame has gone national.

Four tourism businesses have shone in the VisitEngland Awards For Excellence.

The tourism industry’s annual national awards were handed out at a ceremony at the Rum Warehouse, Titanic Hotel Liverpool, last night (Wednesday).

The four York-based winning businesses are:

  • The Grand York, winner of the Gold Award for Large Hotel of the Year
  • The Wizard Walk of York, winner of the Gold Award for New Tourism Business of the Year
  • The Deathly Dark Tours, winner of the Silver Award for Experience of the Year, and
  • MonkBridge House, winner of the Silver Award for B&B and Guest House of the Year.

Sarah Loftus, managing director at Make It York, said: “Congratulations to all four winners! Their top wins highlight their excellent attention to detail and dedication to an exceptional visitor experience.

“This shows the incredible wealth of attractions and accommodation York has to offer.” 

Judges said the Grand York had “exceptionally high standards” of luxury across the hotel and the ability to create “memorable and enjoyable moments for guests”. 

The Wizard Walk Of York was said to be “pure feel-good” and the judges said that they “haven’t smiled and laughed continually so much in ages”.

There was “no room for improvement” in the Deathly Dark Tours and the overall experience “was fantastic”. Judges “loved the approach” and the “entertaining features that also inform and educate”.  

And the “clear passion for their business” at MonkBridge House has led to “excellent customer service’ for visitors”.

All four qualified for the awards after winning at the Visit York Tourism Awards in March.
