Four flood warnings remain in place for York and the river is still rising. But it is due to peak later today (Wednesday).
These four warnings were up to date at 12.13pm today:
- River Ouse at Acaster Malbis
- River Ouse at Naburn Lock
- River Ouse at York – riverside properties
- River Ouse at York – St George’s Field and Queen’s Staith.
These warnings relate to riverside paths and properties. Almost all the city centre is unaffected.
Rowntree Park is closed, but the York Explore Cafe & library in the park is open 9-4pm with access from Richardson Street.
According to a forecast from the Viking Recorder, the level of the River Ouse is set to peak at 5pm today at 4.01m. The top of the normal range is 1.9m.
Beyond York, there are flood warnings for the River Derwent, the River Nidd and the River Ure. Here are the full details.
In Tadcaster, the Community Action Group on Facebook issued this 8am update:
- River levels are dropping
- Surface water flooding in Bridge Street is dropping, no properties are flooded.
- The pump is on and North Yorkshire Council have been additionally informed
- The bridge remains closed, we would estimate this to be the case until midday based on the river level heights. We have had no official update.
You can still cross the bridge by foot, but navigating the surface water looks tricky. According to Tadcaster councillor Kirsty Poskitt, “This is a Yorkshire Water issue, who are aware they need to change a flap valve to the river.”
