Five flood warnings for York as two car parks closed

There are five flood warnings in place in York today (Friday) as river levels continue to rise.

And there are also flood warnings for the Swale, Ure and Wiske in North Yorkshire following Storm Gerrit.

It comes as York gets a brief respite from the wet weather today, before another seven days of rain are forecast.

The level of the River Ouse reached 4.05m at 8am today. The Viking recorder forecasts it will peak at 4.31m at 4am tomorrow (Saturday). The top of the normal range is 1.9m.

St George’s Field and Rowntree Park car parks remain closed. Rowntree Park is also closed.

The Foss Barrier is in operation. Temporary bridges were installed by City of York Council at Fordlands Road and City Mills yesterday.

Flood defences remain on Peckitt Street and Tower Gardens. While riverside paths are flooded, the rest of the city remains open for business.
