Fire crews called out to flooding incidents in York and North Yorkshire

Firefighters have been dealing with a number of flood related incidents overnight.

The heavy rain caused flash flooding in several parts of the county.

Drivers were urged to take extra car last night. Richmond Fire station posted on Facebook after a call out to Leyburn: “The road conditions are horrendous out there with lots of standing water and heavy rain.”

At 10.05pm, a fire officer was called to Rawcliffe in York. A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “An officer assessed reports of surface water flooding inside a residential area.

“The fire officer confirmed there was no risk to the properties at this time after there was concerns from one resident their property could be affected.”

At 10.23pm at Grassington, fire crews went to an crash “after a casualty had driven through flood water and flipped their car”. The driver was given first aid by firefighters until the paramedics arrived.

Crews also assisted after vehicles became stuck in floodwater at Ingleton and Hawes, while Richmond firefighters went to a flooded business in Colburn.

Drier weather is now forecast for the coming week, with York seeing top temperatures of 17°C on Thursday and Friday, and a nighttime low of 3°C tonight.
