Driver taken to hospital after tanker overturns spilling ‘hazardous chemicals’ on the A1M

A tanker driver is in hospital after a crash on the A1M this morning (Wednesday).

Emergency services were called to reports of an overturned tanker on the A1(M) at South Milford at 8.12am

The motorway is closed in both directions between junction J42 (the Selby Fork) and Junction 41 (M62).

And it is likely to stay shut until “late evening” due to the “complex recovery and specialist clear-up work” needed.

A “potentially hazardous” substance has spilled all over the road from the vehicle.

North Yorkshire Police and National Highways Yorkshire are asking those stuck in the queues to stay in their vehicles and await instructions.

Traffic trapped in the northbound queue is being turned via the rear of the queue in batches.

Diversions are via the M1 and M62.
