Crews tackle four fires in York, at least one started deliberately

Crews tackled a number of fires in York overnight.

Responding to reports of flames and smoke in the open, firefighters went to Pasture Way, Heworth, at 6.07pm last night (Monday).

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “They located a skip on fire containing household waste with no persons in attendance.

“Crews extinguished the fire using a hose reel and the cause is believed to have been deliberate.”

At 7.11pm York firefighters went to a fire in the woods close to a play park in New Earswick. They put it out with a knapsack sprayer.

Then at 8.08pm, they went to reports of a fire in Rowntree Park. “The fire was a smouldering log and was extinguished using a bucket of water,” the spokesperson said.

Finally, at 4.29am today (Tuesday), York crews went to another skip fire, on Trinity Lane.

They put it out with a hosereel jet. The cause isn’t yet known.
