York is marking the coronation of the King with a bang. Or several bangs to be exact.
At 12:01 pm today (Saturday), at the exact moment the St Edward’s Crown is placed on the King’s head, a royal salute will ring out in the city.
The salute is one of a handful around the country to mark the occasion.
The 4th Regiment Royal Artillery (the North East Gunners) will fire out the 21-gun salute in Museum Gardens.
The Lord Mayor of York will be the inspecting officer and General Officer Commanding 1st Division will be the senior military host.
Guests will include Vice Lord Lieutenants or Deputy Lieutenants from North, South and West Yorkshire, East Ridings, Northumbria, Tyne and Wear and County Durham, plus representatives from the North Yorkshire Police, fire service, and York Minster.
Music will be provided by bands from The Band of The Royal Yorkshire Regiment and Royal Signals.
The band will be in Museum Gardens from 11.45am.
