Bomb squad called after grenade discovered in field

Army bomb disposal experts were called in after a suspected grenade was found in a field in North Yorkshire.

It was discovered by a man who was metal detecting in a field at Lockton, north of Pickering.

Emergency services went to the location, close to the A169 junction with Overscar Lane, at 1.13pm.

Where the grenade was found

Police called in the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “An officer was mobilised after a metal detectorist discovered an unexploded grenade in a field.

“He stood by with other emergency services whilst the Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion.”
