Explore York have announced their summer reading challenge for 2024 – with some amazing prizes up for grabs.

Explore have been igniting the imaginations of children for a decade, and the Summer Reading Challenge 2024: Marvellous Makers aims to celebrate kids’ creativity and storytelling abilities.

Activities are free or low-cost with tailored programmes for pre-schoolers and teens as well. Booking for the summer activities programme launches online on Sunday 30 June.

Participants in the challenge at Explore libraries will be entered into prize draws to win family tickets for a variety of York attractions – including Wonderlab at the National Railway Museum, Aqua Splash at Yearsley Pool, Clip N’ Climb, Jorvik Centre, York Maze, and the Beauty and the Beast pantomime at Grand Opera House York.

Lyndsay Glover, Explore service developer for children, young people and schools, said: “The Summer Reading Challenge is all about encouraging children to read for fun. Letting them choose books that interest and excite them is the key to children enjoying reading.

“I can’t wait to launch ‘Marvellous Makers’ in our libraries this summer. With fantastic family rewards and a wide variety of activities available, we anticipate a lively and busy season!”

Explore is also celebrating ten years of summer reading challenges by inviting past participants to share their own stories and memories! They are encouraging those to send their experiences via email at contact@exploreyork.org.uk or by sharing a video on Instagram or TikTok.
