Woodland fire started in York suburb

Emergency crews were called out to a blaze in Acomb yesterday evening (Thursday), which is believed to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters attended the scene at Westfield Place at 7.39pm following reports of a fire in the woodland.

The fire measured approximately 2m squared, and consisted of wood and rubbish.

Crews used buckets of water and knapsack sprayers to extinguish the flames.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue spokesperson said:

“The cause was believed deliberate and police were informed.”
