Two men arrested half an hour after York incident

Two men have been arrested suspicion of stealing a car from York, just half an hour after the vehicle was taken.

At about 1.30am yesterday (Wednesday), North Yorkshire Police received a report that two men had stolen a Skoda Rapid from a driver who had offered them a lift.

The suspects drove off but police were able to track their movements north, and by 2am they had located the vehicle in Easingwold.

Two men were spotted nearby, and arrested in connection with the incident.

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, failing to provide a breath test and drug wipe samples for analysis, and assaulting an emergency worker.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery, and driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs.

Both are in custody. The vehicle has been recovered for forensic examination.
