Police hunt for boy accused of towing a stolen caravan along the A1M

Police are searching for a boy accused of using a BMW to drive off with a caravan.

The boy was 11 when he was found at the wheel of the BMW X5 on the A1M. It had been towing a caravan reported stolen from a holiday site near Thirsk.

North Yorkshire Police said they were staggered when they found the car being driven by a boy barely able to see over the steering wheel.

The 4×4, which allegedly had cloned number plates, had been driven for 40 miles when the police intervened on 7 March last year.

They stopped the vehicles just 45 minutes after the caravan was first reported stolen.

That was a year ago. The boy, now aged 12, was due before Harrogate magistrates on 14 March accused of theft and a number of other offences.

A spokesperson for the court told YorkMix: “A juvenile was due to appear before Harrogate magistrates charged with theft of a motor vehicle of value unknown, driving it dangerously and handling stolen goods, namely a caravan.

“The defendant has not attended and an arrest warrant has been issued.”

The whereabouts of the boy are not known at this time.
