People seen fleeing the scene after fire started deliberately in York

Police are investigating after a fire was started deliberately in York last night (Tuesday).

Firefighters were called to a report of a fire in woodland near a play area off Grange Lane, Acomb, at 9.17pm.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews extinguished the fire using knapsack sprayers and liaised with police on scene.

“The cause of the fire was believed to have been deliberate with people seen fleeing the scene. The incident was then left with the police.”
