Indie coffee house to open new branch in former York city centre shop

A popular city coffee shop is set to open a large new outlet – right opposite Caffe Nero.

Spring Espresso plans to move into the former Oasis shop on Coppergate.

It is the third permanent café in the group. The first Spring Espresso opened on Fossgate, followed by a branch on Lendal.

New awnings and illuminated signs would be mounted on the outside of the empty shop, according to plans lodged with City of York Council.

Director of Spring Espresso Steve Dyson said they had “all sorts of exciting stuff planned” for the new venue, and details would be forthcoming soon.

This will be the most spacious branch yet, with 1,907 sq ft of trading space on both the ground and first floors

It’s a good spot, close to the Coppergate Centre

As well as serving a range of artisan coffees, Spring Espresso has plenty of food on the menu.

Breakfasts range from porridge and bacon sandwiches to a sausage ciabatta and mushroom and spinach muffin.

Brunches include avocado toast and eggs benedict, and there are a range of lunch sandwiches.

The cafés have won many accolades, including being mentioned in both the Independent and Telegraph newspaper lists of best coffees shops, and taking the ‘Best of the Best’ honour in the TripAdvisor Travellers Choice awards 2020.
