A YorkMix Radio listener has turned 1p into over £400 for charity.
Luke Fenton, who won 1p on the YorkMix Radio game Mug for the Money, decided to take his humble winnings and see how much he could raise for charity from it.
So far, he has managed to turn the 1p into £441.53 (with Gift Aid) for York Mind.
Luke created a JustGiving page as well as running the Hull 10k and upcoming Leeds 10k to help raise the money.
“As an illustrious ‘winner’ of the money I was very privileged to think what can I do with it, how can we pay it forward,” Luke told Laura and Leigh on the YorkMix breakfast show.
“York Mind is an absolutely brilliant charity. As we came into the pandemic and how important mental health became and how much more awareness it needed – and it’s just one of those great local charities that really do fantastic work.
“I’ve supported them for a number of years now and I’m going to continue supporting them going forward.”
The JustGiving page is still open ahead of the Leeds 10K this weekend – donations can be made online here.
Well done Luke on such a fantastic effort!
