Free festival returns to York for nine days of live music

Nine days of live music and entertainment is returning to York.

Live for St Leonard’s is back from Friday 20 to Saturday 28 September on Parliament Street.

The free music festival will feature some fabulous local musicians – all while raising money for a brilliant cause. All of the live music shows are free to attend, and will take place every evening between 5pm to 9pm.

Held in aid of St Leonard’s Hospice, staff and volunteers will be onsite and ready to collect cash and card donations. The charity fundraising event forms part of the York Food and Drink Festival – and it will be hosted every night by YorkMix!

The music festival is organised by York BID in partnership with YorkMix and sponsored by City Cruises.

Last year, Live For St Leonard’s raised over £5,000, and since it first launched in 2021 has generated a fundraising total of nearly £14,000.

The line-up for 2024 features a whole host of talent, including The Supermodels, Jess Gardham, Attention Freaks, Gary Stewart, Bang Bang Bang, The Echoes, Miles & The Chain Gang, In Pictures, Harry Arnison Band, and Tri-Starrs. See the full line-up here.

Chris Bush, business manager at the York BID, said ‘‘York is home to an incredible pool of musical talent, and we are privileged to have such a fabulous lineup of artists supporting this year’s festival.

“This is a brilliant time to visit York’s city centre, enjoy the festivities and live entertainment, and support us in raising funds towards a worthwhile cause.”

Annie Keogh, community development fundraiser at St Leonard’s Hospice, added, “We’re delighted that yet again the York Food & Drink Festival and York BID have chosen to support St Leonard’s.

“We’re grateful to all the bands for supporting us. Come along, listen to some great live music, soak up the atmosphere and help support your local Hospice.”
