A former York community campaigner who stood for election for the city council has been charged with rape.
Gordon Campbell-Thomas, 71, appeared at York Crown Court today (Monday) when he pleaded not guilty to two counts of raping a woman and one count of administering a substance with intent to overpower or stupefy in order to allow sexual activity.
The alleged offences are said to have occurred in 2020.

Campbell-Thomas, of Ascot Way, York, has stood for election to City of York Council on a number of occasions, claiming to have represented both the Green Party and Labour. He later stood as an Independent.
He has also been involved in numerous community organisations.
Campbell-Thomas is a founder member of the St Nicks Nature Reserve and was an active campaigner against plans to create a ‘Coppergate II’ shopping centre.
Judge Sean Morris, the Recorder of York, set a trial date of April 4 next year.
Campbell-Thomas was released on bail until that date on condition that he does not contact any named witnesses.
