Fire at York skate park started deliberately

Fire crews were called to a skate park fire in York last night.

York and Acomb firefighters went to Zoo Skatepark at the Foss Bank car park at 5.53pm.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from York and Acomb responded to a report of smoke seen coming from a car park.

“Crews located a fire in a skate park that had been lit deliberately.”

The incident will be reported to police as part of a joint operation to tackle the increasing number of arson attacks in York.

Other fire calls overnight included:

  • 5.35pm Hollywood, Selby – fire in a field measuring 10m by 2m
  • 6.40pm Main Street, Amotherby – garden waste bin fire next to a home
  • 6.42pm Rudcarr Lane, Warthill – fire to a baler and 10 bales in a field
  • 9.52pm Stepney Road, Scarborough – small bedroom fire
  • 9.59pm Albion Road, Scarborough – coffee pot that had been left on the hob caught fire.
