Budding artists are invited to join York’s newest creative movement – ‘Art is my career’

For creative minds, a career in the arts sector offers huge opportunities – but a question for many young people exploring their options in this field is where to start and what direction to go in.

Keen to support creatives of tomorrow, York design agency Dogeatcog has joined forces with Bright Young Things, led by Leonie Hertig, a community which brings together people early in their careers within the arts sector, to launch an empowering new campaign: Art is my career

The campaign is aimed at people aged 16-25 who are considering an arts-based career, and celebrates talent by showcasing successful individuals and their journey getting there.

The team said: “We want to spread the word and inspire young people to explore a career in arts. It’s a sector that’s often maligned, but creativity drives innovation and problem-solving in all industries. We want to support the next generation of creative minds, and open conversations that will help lead them on the path to success.”

As part of the campaign, the team has created Art is my career pin badges, and is inviting creatives to showcase existing or new work on the badge backing cards, celebrating the wide-ranging talent our region has to offer.

The pins, alongside the sale of merch including tote bags and t-shirts will fund an event held as part of York Design Week 2021 later this year.

The two-day networking event will feature five industry experts as keynote speakers, talking about their experiences and journey in the arts sector. Experts will also host 1-2-1 talks, allowing students and young people to discover the wide range and diverse career options available to them within the industry and have direct access and dedicated time with peers.

From designers to music producers, copy writers to cartoonists; the event will showcase over 30 job roles to inspire and encourage the creatives of tomorrow.

If you work within the arts sector and would like to design or share your work on a pin badge backing card, or are a member of the creative industry and would like to get involved in the networking event, contact the team at hello@dogeatcog.co.uk.
