York-born business pays tribute to Ozzy Osbourne after working with him on final show

A York-born flower business has paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne after working with Black Sabbath on their final show, just weeks before the sad news of the rock legend’s passing.

It was announced yesterday (July 22) that Ozzy had died at the age of 76. Best known as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath, Ozzy also gained fame through his family’s MTV reality show The Osbournes.

Fulford Flowers, which began as a small shop on Main Street in Fulford, shared their connection to Ozzy in a touching social media post yesterday evening (Tuesday), stating “what a legend he was!”

The florist played a role in the band’s final performance, which took place on the 5 July, less than three weeks before Ozzy’s death.

Their social media post featured Fulford Flowers owner, Sheryl Popplewell, standing ahead of the band’s tour poster and included the caption:

“So sad to hear of the passing of Ozzy Osbourne less than 3 weeks ago we had the privilege of working on Black Sabbath’s final show. Affectionally nicknamed ‘The Ozzy fest’ backstage. Such fun and blessed to be part of it. What a legend he was!”

The band’s final concert took place in Birmingham, when Ozzy reunited with his bandmates on the Villa Park stage.

The event was especially poignant, as Birmingham is Ozzy’s hometown. He was born there on 3 December 1948.

In recent years, Ozzy had battled Parkinson’s disease along with other health issues.

He leaves behind his wife Sharon, children, Aimee, Kelly, Jack, Jessica and Louis, as well as his grandchildren.
