“Every step helps us provide safe, stable accommodation.”

Aimee Harding, Community Fundraising Officer at SASH, said:

“The SASH Neon Walk for Change is a new event this year, holding it on World Homeless Day is the perfect time to come together and show young people that their community cares and there’s support available for them.

“Whether you’re walking solo, with friends, family, or your glow-in-the-dark dog, every step helps us provide safe, stable accommodation for young people in need.”

Why walk?

The walk raises crucial funds to support SASH’s work with 16–25 year-olds experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. The charity offers:

  • Nightstop: Emergency accommodation for young people who have nowhere else to go.
  • Supported Lodgings: Longer-term accommodation with trained hosts, where a young person can stay for up to two years.

“Community events like this are vital for us,” Aimee added. “Every walker, every pound raised changes the lives of young people and helps us to prevent youth homelessness.”

To continue its work, SASH needs to raise approximately £500,000 per year through donations and local fundraising.

About SASH

Safe and Sound Homes (SASH) is a charity working across York and North Yorkshire to prevent youth homelessness.

SASH provides emergency accommodation and long-term support through a network of hosts who welcome young people into their homes.

The charity also offers an enhanced support programme, helping young people move towards independent and stable futures.

A charity spokesperson said, “Supporting a young person facing homelessness to build a brighter future is as much about tackling the root cause of their homelessness as it is about putting a roof over their head.”
